Plea to Deerfield Beach Resident Gwyn Clark-Reed: Your Fellow Citizens Need You...

I just fired this off to the Honorable Gwyn Clark-Reeds office.  Asking for her continued help in this effort and asking her to give this 100% as black leader in this community.

Gwyn,

I am not sure if you are still working on this issue or not.  I have contacted Governor Scotts office to ask for a temporary injunction or emergency restraining order against the City on this issue.

[update 4/6/2011:  Spoke with Governor Scott's office and they indicated that this is not their problem that this is a local issue.  WOW!  He created this problem by removing Sylvia and not using his power to appoint someone in the interim.  The City could not appoint because of the Charter (THANK GOD, they probably would've put a puppet up their to rubber stamp their agenda), but the Governor does have to power to appoint under Article IV, Section 7 Subsection C of the Florida Constitution...(Thanks Marcia of Kristin Jacobs office for advising this may be possible).  Now, this says

(c) By order of the governor any elected municipal officer indicted for crime may be suspended from office until acquitted and the office filled by appointment for the period of suspension, not to extend beyond the term, unless these powers are vested elsewhere by law or the municipal charter.

Well, the City Charter does speak on it and advises that a special election must take place, which obviously certain liberties where taken because the Charter did not provide an adequate time frame by law,

(b)   Special elections.  If no regular city election is scheduled within nine (9) months, the commission shall schedule a special election to fill the unexpired term of mayor or a commissioner held not sooner than forty-five (45) days, nor more than seventy-five (75) days following the occurrence of the vacancy or vacancies.
In any special election held for the purpose of this section, the provisions for candidates and elections of article VI of this Charter shall apply.

so since it is not prohibited and the Governor has the power he could now appoint someone to represent us until the July 19, 2011 Special Election.  Or he could impose an injunction until all citizens of Deerfield Beach are represented equally under the law.]

As I have asserted to you and everyone else.

District 2 residents are not equally represented under the law.  The other District have a Commissoner that has access to information and consults with the City Manager to discuss this utility tax ordinance.  They also have someone on the DAIS who can speak for them and express their will by a affirmative or no vote.  District 2 does not.  Even on July 19 (as you suggested) we would still not be equally represented because the voting polls close at 7 if an emergency meeting is held that day or after our Commissioner would still not be sworn in and would not have had meetings with his constituents, and have had access to all the information or lack thereof that the other District Commissioners have had.

I am not even sure why you would suggest that date, but never the less.  We still need your help as our elected official and really the only one that we have locally besides Kristin Jacobs (who has not responded to my emails and has not returned my calls), Christopher Smith (who has not returned my calls), Alcee Hastings (who said he will try and get some people there on Tuesday, but has not return my calls other than that), and you (I appreciate that you have taken interest and expended effort on this issue, which is more than I can say for some, but we need more help.)

***Update 3/6/2011: I received a call from Kristin Jacobs office and they will be looking into this...Thanks Marcia and Xenia

Can you go to the papers or call a press conference something to get some light shed on this issue.  I have done my part as a citizen by informing the elected representatives of this injustice to this minority community, your adopted community.

Can you get us in touch with the ACLU or something.  As a Rep. you should have some contacts with the ACLU that you can put us in touch with.

***This portion not in email.  She'll see it though***

I see that you are having a community outreach meeting in our City on June 9, 2011, to what end???  We need your help now, we need for you to fight for us with all you have.  As witness to the Tuesday meeting, I know that you haven't and the concession you asked for (postponement til July 19, 2011) really did nothing for the residents of District 2 and would have only been a boon for the City so they could say that they tried to work with us, however, Burgess Hanson turned even that down.  We need elected representatives that will fight for us, are you that individual.  If you can't or won't do it then maybe we need to consider the alternatives.

Now is the time for action, now is the time for you to lead.

You and the churches lead, we the residents will follow.  So LEAD!

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
- Thomas Jefferson
He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil-this is the man who will dwell on the heights, whose refuge will be the mountain fortress. His bread will be supplied, and water will not fail him.
Isaiah 33:15-16

What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
James 2:14-26
